| Wybalenna |
Taking the northern road from Whitemark, Flinders Executive
Tours can show visitors the museum and the restored chapel at Wybalenna.
Old headstones of black and white inhabitants who succumbed in the early
1800's reveal little in themselves of the harsh past endured by these people. |
Emita |
The historical museum and Allports Beach Coastal Reserve
are popular places for visitors. The Wybalenna settlement was one of the
first inhabited places in the island's history by Tasmanian aborigines
and the early white settlers. |
| Mt Tanner |
Rising 331 metres you are treated to extensive vistas
of the island shared only with wildlife such soaring eagles and other birds,
skinks and butterflies. The road terminates at a car park allowing the
visitor to wonder at the surrounding islands and enjoy the wide views of
Flinders Island beaches, farm land and seascape.
A micro-wave communications station that links Flinders Island with
the rest of the world for telephony and television is the modern version
of the smoke signals originally used by the island settlers. |
| Killiecrankie |
Renowned jewellery made with "mined" topaz found on the slopes of Mt
Killecrankie are marketted as Killiecrankie diamonds. You might be lucky
to find yourself a gemstone that can be cut into a beautiful specimen.

| Palana |
The oldest surviving house on Flinders Island is at Palana
having been built in 1889 by George Boyes. This early development at Palana
subsequently led to extensive land clearing for soldier settler and private
farms. |
